Guangdong Transportation


Bordering on the South China Sea, Guangdong is China’s southern most provinces with a coastline of over 4,300 kilometres.As one of the popular gateway of china, Guangzhou is the transportation hub of southern China. The new Guangzhou Airport is an important international airport. Each day there are flights to all parts of China and some foreign countries. Guangzhou's highway system is also well developed. The region's sprawling roads can take visitors to the whole country. There is also good water transportation system in which the Huangpu Port is a very important large port in Southern China.

By Air

Guangzhou Airport2.jpgPassport holders of 53 countries and regions can stay 144 hours visa-free in Guangdong if they enter from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, Shenzhen Bao'an Airport or Jieyang Chaoshan Airport and leave from any port in Guangdong for a third country. The policy has been approved, but not implemented yet. Please pay attention to the latest information and confirm with your airline before taking the plane.


By Train

There are many rail routes across Guangdong, such as the Beijing-Guangzhou, Jingjiu, Shanghai-Hongkong, Guangzhou-Jiujiang, Guangzhou-Shenzhen and Guangzhou-Meizhou routes.

There are four major railroad companies operating within Guangdong. They are the Jingjiu Railroad, the Beijing-Guangzhou Railroad, the Guangzhou – Meizhou - Shantou Railroad, and the Guangzhou - Maoming - Zhangjiang Railroad.

Railroad transport outside the province mainly depends on two large arteries: the Beijing-Guangzhou and the Jingjiu lines. The Beijing-Guangzhou Railroad begins at the Guangzhou Railway Station in the south. The Shenzhen Railway Station, the Guangzhou East Railway Station and the Dongguan Railway Station are the beginning stations for passengers in the south part of the Jingjiu line. Trains from Guangzhou to Zhaoqing, Yangjiang, Maomin, Zhanjiang of West Yue and to Nanning, Kunming, Liuzhou, Guiyang, and Chongqing of West China all must use the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang railway. Trains from Guangzhou to Huizhou, Heyuan, Meizhou, Chaozhou, Jieyang, and Shangtou of East Yue, must use the Guangzhou – Meizhou - Shantou railway.


By Highway 

Guangdong is one of the provinces with the most advanced highway transport, reaching in all directions. Guangdong borders on Hongkong and Macao, so these three places have an integrated transport system.

Guangdong is the province with the greatest highway mileage open to traffic in China now. Already constructed highways include: the Guangzhou ring highway, the Guangzhou-Huadu-Qingyuan highway, the Guangzhou-Foshan-Sanshui highway, the Guangzhou-Heshan-Kaiping highway, the Guangzhou-Fumen-Shenzhen highway, the Shenzhen-Shanwei-Shantou highway, the Humen-Zhuhai highway, the Shenzhen Airport-Yantian Harbor highway, and the Longgang-Huizhou highway. Seven provincial roads, Numbers 105, 106, 107, 205, 321, 324, and 325 join up in Guangzhou. Every day, there are dozens of through buses traveling between Guangzhou, the cities of the Pearl River Delta, and Hong Kong and Macao.


By Waterway

The Pearl River is the second largest navigation canal in China, ranking next below the Yangtze River. Passenger routes directly connect to the inland water harbors of Guangzhou, Zhaoqing and Wuzhou, among other places, from Hong Kong, Macao, Shenzhen and Zhuhai. Shantou Harbor is the important transfer harbor between Hongkong and Macao. Regularly scheduled passenger ships head for Hong Kong. Hai'an Harbor on the south side of the Leizhou Peninsula is the gateway connecting China and Hainan Island. There are tens of buses and passenger ships working day and night to speed travellers on their way.

Finally, from Guangdong ocean routes reach all continents of the world. The Whampoa Port can anchor 10,000 ton vessels.
