Sun Yat-sen is regarded as the father of modern China as he devoted himself to the overthrow of the feudal Qing Dynasty and foundation of a new democratic republic in China. In order to commemorate his great contribution to the renaissance of China, the city was called Zhongshan, Sun Yat-sen's Chinese family name. At the same time, the locals marked their admiration for the great man by constructing museums and a street in his honor.
