History of Xiaogan
As one of early developed regions in China, Xiaogan City enjoys a long history. According to textural researches, there were human activities as early as 5000 years ago. In extremely long ago, cities and counties of present Xiaogan belonged to ancient Jingzhou. During the Zhou Dynasty (11th century BC-221BC), this region was the capital of several city states. Danyang is the old name of this region. It was changed to a regional level district under Hubei province in 1961.
What to see in Xiaogan?
According to the landform, Xiaogan can be divided into three major parts. The northwest part is mountainous area. The northeastern area is occupied by low mountains and hills. Plains are mainly distributed in the south of Xiaogan. There are four rivers in the city with several lakes scattered. Xiaogan is also rich in tourism resources.
There are five national forest parks in this region: three ponds in Dagui, three passes (Wusheng, Pingjing and Jiuli) in northern Chu, Spring of the Jade Maiden Pond, Baizhao Mountain (The poet-immortal Li Bai once lived in seclusion here for ten years) and Shuangfeng Mountain.
Xiaonan Town, located in Xiaogan City of Hubei Province, is the hometown of Dong Yong who was a dutiful son in Han Dynasty. With a population of 850,000, Xiaonan Town is the only district directly under Xiaogan Government, and the political, economic and cultural center of Xiaogan City. It is located in the north of Yangtze River of Central Hubei Province, and closes to the provincial capital, Wuhan, with its southern part.

When to visit Xiaogan?
Bearing a subtropical monsoon climate, Xiaogan has clear four seasons, but chilly and torrid periods are short. Weather in spring, autumn and early summer is moderate. Mid-June to mid-July is the plum rain season, and rainstorms usually occur during this period. Winter here is cold and seldom rainy or snowy.
Xiaogan has an annual average temperature of 16C (61F). It will be comfortable to visit the city in spring, autumn and early summer.
How to get to Xiaogan?
As Hanjiang River, Huanhe River and Fuhe River feed into Changjiang River and Tianhe International Airport is just 32 km away from the urban area of Xiaogan, a three-dimensional transportation network including waterways, land routes and airlines is formed with road serving as the main body, railways as the artery and water transportation as supplement.
Xiaogan is only 32 kilometers from Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, and it greatly facilitates people who want to travel by air, although Xiaogan do not have its own airport. Furthermore, Xiaogan is 60 kilometers from downtown Wuhan, only an hour's drive. Xiaogan central bus station is seated in No.108, Huaiyin Dadao, Xiaonan District. In addition, Xiaogan also has several bus stations serving in its counties and county-level cities.
