China’s Entry Requirements and Procedures

What documents and certificates a foreign entry passenger should prepare to enter China:

 You must get your valid passport and China visa ready when through a port of entry. You are supposed to be given an entry card and a customs declaration form (exit-entry form) on the flight or ship to China. You need to fill out the form prior to arrival and present to the officers of immigration inspection station, together with other necessary documents. Foreign passengers holding a group visa to China need not fill in the customs declaration form.

The entry procedures for a foreign passenger:
You will need to go through health check (filling out the health declaration forms truthfully), frontier inspection, custom declaration and finally security check.


What kinds of people are not allowed to enter China?

  1. Those who are blacklisted by the Chinese government;
  2. Terrorists, violent persons, and participants of superstitious activities that do harms to the society are prohibited to enter China;
  3. Being identified as those who may endanger national interests and security;
  4. Incurable patients that may do harm to the society, such as AIDS patients and other infectious diseases patients;
  5. Foreigners who cannot live on their own in China
  6. Foreigners who don’t have the valid passports or visas, or refuse to have their documents or credentials checked.

According to the Chinese Customs Regulations, tourists from foreign countries should pay attention to their articles carried in China.


Baggage states

The following articles are prohibited (neither in checked nor carry-on luggage):

► Arms, ammunition, and explosives of all kinds
► Controlled knife tools which are listed in “Interim provision for controlling implement of part of knife tools”
► Corrosive corporation
► Radio transmitters-receivers and principal parts
► Manuscripts, printed matter, films, photographs, gramophone records, cinematographic films, loaded recording tapes and videotapes, etc. which are detrimental to China’s politics, economy, culture and ethics
► Poisonous drugs, habit-forming drugs, opium, morphine, heroin, etc.
► Animals, plants and products thereof infected with or carrying germs and insect pests
► Unsanitary foodstuffs and germ-carrying food-stuffs from infected areas
► Other articles the import of which is prohibited by state regulations
 
 
The following articles can carry in but need to be declared

► Animals and plants, or related products
► Microorganism, biological product, human tissue or blood items
► Chinese residents carry items (for self using only) more than 5,000 yuan (including 5,000 yuan) which got overseas
► Foreign visitors who carry gifts or items with value above 2,000 yuan and plan to send to friends or related people in China
► Alcohol items over 1,500ML (12% alcohol and above)
► Cigarette over 400 pieces or cigar over 100 pieces or tobacco over 500g
► Chinese Renminbi cash over 20,000 yuan or foreign currency cash with a value more than 5,000 dollar

Items for friend or personal used when entry in China

► If tourists would like to take some gifts to their friends or relatives in China, those articles should be declared.
► Personal belongings will be admitted duty free, including food, two bottles of liquor and two cartons of cigarettes. 
► Wriswarthes, cameras, movie cameras, and similar items may be brought in for personal use but cannot be sold or transferred to others and must be brought our of China
