Liling Porcelain is a famous porcelain fron Liling County,Hunan Province. Located in the east of Hunan Province, Liling County abounds in porcelain clay, hence an ideal place for porcelain production. Liling under-glaze colored porcelain enjoys good reputation for its colorful hues, artistic style, exquisite workmanship, as well as diversified varieties and design.
With a porcelain production history of over 1,700 years since the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD), Liling under-glaze colored porcelain has formed its distinctive features compared with other decorative porcelains. It is lead-free and resistant to acid or base corrosion, and can bear abrasion and tear; the ornamentations are simple and elegant, and the bright colors do not fade; the finished porcelain is crystal-clear and smooth.
Since the foundation of the People's Republic of China, under-glazed colored porcelain has been reputed as "National Porcelain of China". Authorized by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China (AQSIQ), Liling under-glaze colored porcelain was listed as China's National Geographical Indication Protection Product in September 6, 2007 and its handicraft techniques was selected as the national intangible cultural heritage the next year.
