suney3_副本.jpgJishou City is the capital and the largest city in Xiangxi Tujia & Miao Autonomous Prefecture. Jishou is located on the road between Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang Ancient Town, It is must-go when you travel to Phoenix Ancient Town from Zhangjiajie. 

History: Jishou has a history of more than 2,000 years dating back to the Qin dynasty. In those days, it was affiliated with Qianzhong Prefecture. During the Song dynasty, a town government was established in a stockaded village, Zhenxi, which in the Ming dynasty became the Zhenxi soldiers and civilians battalion. Qianzhou Prefecture was created during the Qing dynasty. During the Republic of China era it was known as Qian County.In 1953 the area was renamed Jishou county, with two adjacent cities, Jishou and Qianzhou. In 1982 Jishou city became the capital of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. The city of Qianzhou Town now lies just south of Jishou city.

GeographyJishou lies east of the Wuling Mountain range. About 80% of the city's terrain is low hills or low mountains. The highest elevation is 964.5 meters, at Liantaifeng, near the town of Aizhai and the lowest point is 142 meters, near the town of Hexi.The Dong River, a tributary of the Wu (Yuan River),runs west to east through the city.

Population: Jishou City had a population of 291,200 in the year 2008, including an agricultural population of 163,100, or 56% of the population. The urban population was 192,500. About 77.3% of the population belonged to the Miao or Tujia minorities, with 121,000 Miao and 101,200 Tujia. Members of China's predominant Han ethnic group comprise the rest of the population.


What to See ?

▲ Dehang Miao Village  is located in Aizhai Township which is about 20km away from Jishou City, capital of Xiangxi Tujia & Miao Autonomous Prefecture, South Central China's Hunan Province. Here, the mountain terrain is free and easy with flowing rhythm and the precipice is tall and erect. The overlapping peaks form many bluffs, cliffs, waterfalls, and virgin forests. In the scenic spot, the sprinlets and rivers crisscross, and it is like spring all the year round with pleasant climate. It has rich animal and plant resources, and pretty and charming natural landscape. 

 Aizhai Bridge  is a suspension bridge on the G65 Baotou–Maoming Expressway near Jishou, Hunan, China. The bridge was built as part of an expressway from southwest China's Chongqing Municipality to Changsha. As the world's highest and longest tunnel-to-tunnel bridge, the Aizhai suspension bridge links two tunnels 1,176 meters apart, carrying traffic 330 meters above the foot of Dehang Canyon. Construction of the bridge started in October 2007 and its main sections were completed at the end of last year. The bridge was temporarily opened to pedestrians during the 2012 Spring Festival and was formally opened to traffic in March 2012. It is also the sixth-highest bridge in the world and the world's twelfth-longest suspension bridge. Of the world's 400 or so highest bridges, none has a main span as long as Aizhai

 Morong Miao Village  is one of the Miao Ethnic Minority Villages opened to tourists.Morong Miao Village is loctaed in the Guzhang County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefeture,China's Hunan Province. It's about 15 minutes driving from Jishou City, as well as 30 minutes from Guzhang County.It's easily to see while you take bus from Furong Ancient Town to Fenghuang Ancient Town.

▲ Qianzhou Ancient Town is located in Jishou City,which is rebuilt according to the ancient twon with over 1000 years history.


How to get there ?

Jishou has not airport yet.Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport and Changde Taohuayuan International Airport are the nearest airport from Jishou City. But it is easily to get there by train or bus from Zhangjiajie,Huaihuai, Changde, Changsha. Read More: Xiangxi Transportation 

Jishou Railway Station is located in north part of Jishou City. Tourists can take trains from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Guiyang, Kunming, Zunyi, Nanning, Liuzhou to Jishou City.And it is only two hours from Zhangjiajie and Huaihua by train.

Jishou North Bus Station is just a few blocks east of the train.From the North Station, frequent motorcoaches connect to Changsha, Dehang, Yueyang, Changde, Zhangjiajie and other cities to the north and east. Fares vary depending on the day and whether it is a holiday. The trip to Changsha usually costs between ¥90 and ¥140 and takes about four to five hours, with a short rest stop at the halfway point.

Jishou East Bus Station is located in Wuling DongLu of Jishou City.From the East Station, buses leave for Fenghuang, Huaihua and other cities to the south and west. Fares vary depending on the day and whether it is a holiday. Motorcoach service to Chongqing began with completion of a new expressway in 2012. The ride takes about seven hours and costs about ¥150.


When to go ?
