Guilin Osmanthus Tea


Osmanthus tea and sugar are among the many products made from Guilin's fragrant osmanthus flowers (桂花 guihua /gway-hwaa/), because the name Guilin (桂林) literally means "Forest of Osmanthus".Guilin Osmanthus Tea, a special product of Guilin in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is a national geographical indication of agricultural products.
 
Guilin osmanthus tea has a long history with over 1,000 years. In the land area of Guilin, the loose soil and deep soil layer are suitable for the growth of osmanthus tree. The rivers in Guilin's osmanthus tree  growing areas are densely packed, and there are five rivers: Lijiang River, Xiangjiang River, Luoqing River,Xunjiang River, and Zijiang River. The water quality meets national standards. 
 
The protection scope of Guilin Osmanthus tea belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate. The climate is mild, the rainfall is abundant, the frost-free period is long, the light is sufficient, and the four seasons are clear.
 
Guilin osmanthus tea uses fresh, no pollution, no deterioration, fragrant osmanthus (or high-quality dried osmanthus osmanthus) and green tea or black tea-grade parison, according to the processing technology: osmanthus → tea blank → simmering → drying → jacquard → finished product. The shape of the product (strips, granules) is even, with golden flowers, bright soup color, rich and long-lasting osmanthus fragrance, rich taste and even leaf base.
 
On November 18, 2014, the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China approved the registration and protection of agricultural products' geographical indications for "Guilin Osmanthus Tea".
