Bailudong Academy

Bailudong Academy is located in the southeast of Wulaofeng Peak, Haihui town, Lushan District of Jiujiang City. Built in 940 AD, it has the mountain area of 3000 acres and the construction area is 3800 square meters. Surrounded by mountains,  Bailudong Academy is a key cultural relics protection unit in China.

In 618, the first year of the Tang Dynasty, Li Bo, a prince in Jiangzhou, lived in a retreat to study, and raised a white deer for entertaining himself, so he was also known as Mr. White Deer. He built a terrace and planted flowers and trees here. During the Southern Tang Dynasty, the emperor once  set up the Lushan National School here. It wasn't until the Southern Song Dynasty(907-1227)  that Zhu Xi came here to make it flourished.

The existing building complex of Bailudong Academy is built in a series from west to east along the Guandaoxi River, which consists of the architectural complex of the gatehouse of the academy, Ziyang Academy, Bailu Academy, and Yanbin Hotel. The buildings are all south-facing, with stone or brick-wood structures. The roofs are herringbone-shaped hard mountain tops, which are quite elegant and indifferent.

Bailudong Academy is one of the four major academies in China. Zhu Xi, famous scholar in the South Song Dynasty,  rebuilt the academy and gave lectures in person.
