Pingjiang Church


Pingjiang church.jpgPingjiang Church in Panzhihua City of Sichuan Province was originally called Mashangtian church. Before, Pingjiang church belonged to Kunming Diocese in Yunnan Province. Today, it is part of Xichang Diocese in Sichuan Province. 

Pingjiang church was built in 1883. The bell tower building with typical wood construction style of Qing Dynasty had nationality characters. The main building of the church was French style because it was a cross shape and wood construction. 

From 1950s to 1980s, the government used Pingjiang church. Until the middle of 1980s, it was returned to the church. Due to special architecture style and a history of 120 years, Pingjiang church is a ancient building in Panzhihua City. The government paid more attention for protecting this building and the local catholics love it as well. The current parish priest is Fr. Shengjin Huang. There are over 400 catholics in PingJiang today.
