Learn to make ceramic crafts


Ceramic art is an old traditional culture of China. The English name of “Zhongguo” is China which to English speakers means “Porcelain”. China is an old country of porcelain. Foreigners will think of China first when they talk about porcelain.

Presently, ceramic art abroad is developing rapidly. Students have classes on ceramic art in primary schools, middle schools and universities. Many families have launched ceramic art workshops, and some have even created a business of ceramic art. Some works by ceramic artists are also on display in some leisurely places. This can both develop ceramic art greatly and enhance study and communication with ceramic artists.

Ceramic crafts have found more and more favor with people as along the rapid development of ceramic art persists. People find that making a ceramic craft in person is another way of relaxing after study and work. Ceramic art in China is still in a developing stage.

Ceramic workshops appeared several years ago with the sole purpose of developing Chinese ceramic art. People are getting to know about ceramic art gradually and ceramic art is stepping up in Chinese families.

In view of education for all-around development, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China has made ceramic art a course, thus students can grow up under the nurture of art and enhance their ability of practicing one of the fine arts. This interest in the ceramic arts embodies the achievements of education for all-around development.

Activities of Chinese Ceramic Art

1. Learn to make ceramic crafts

This activity will take place indoors. Participants will make ceramic crafts with instruments such as a rotary beater and grouting machine. Experienced teachers will give on-the-spot teaching and guidance. Participants can make polychrome painting on ceramic plates in person and as well as make vases and ceramic bowls.

Participants can not only acquire the knowledge of ceramic art and China porcelain, but also can get to know many new friends. Every participant will get his own ceramic work as a souvenir.

2. A tea party with students of Shaling School and then dinner at a local farm

First, we will have a tea party with the students of Shaling School to share the joys of Children's Day and get to know life and education of Chinese children. Then, we will go to have dinner at a farmer’s home to experience the real life of local farmers
