Cycling on City Wall


Cycling on City Wall is a popular tour in Xian. Apart from cycling in/around the city, riding bikes on the City Wall of Xian is a strong recommendation. In this way, you can have a general sightseeing of the ancient city in around two hours. The recommended cycling route is South Gate (the main gate to climb onto the wall) – West Gate – North Gate – East Gate – South Gate. It is not allowed to take your own bicycle on the wall, but both single and tandem bicycles can be rented at a reasonable price.

Bicycle Rental in Xian
Cycling is an attractive traveling method in Xian. In this way, people are able to find the real life scene of the locals and get into every corner of the city easily. Some youth hostels and hotels in Xian offer bike rental service to their guests. There are also many dockless sharing bikes densely distributed in the city. Apart from that, the public bike rental system now is very common in the city. In the downtown area, the streets and roads are flat for bicycle riding, but it is still advised to be careful of the fast city-buses, taxis and private cars. In any case, do keep riding on the right!
There are a great many public bicycle rental sites, scattering in almost all districts, including Yanta, Beilin, Lianhu, Weiyang, Xincheng and Gaoxin. 20-40 bikes are equipped at each site. Their service hours are from 06:30 to 21:00. After 21:00, one can only return a bike and the rental will be refused.

CNY1 between 1 and 2 hours;
CNY2 between 2 and 3 hours;
If the rental duration is longer than 3 hours, CNY3 is charged for each extra hour and the maximum cost is CNY30 for the first all-day rental. For example, if a bike is rented for 5 hours, the cost should be 0+1+2+3+3=CNY9.

Note: If the public bike is not returned within 24 hours, multiples of CNY30 will be charged. Here is the rule: between 24 hours and 48 hours, it charges 30×2+30=CNY90; between 48 hours and 72 hours, the charge is 60×2+90=CNY210.

Any person between 16 and 70 years old (70 excluded) can rent a bike. To get the service, one needs first to have a Public Transportation Card (also IC Card, Chang An Tong or Yi Ka Tong) and then activate the bicycle rental function of the card at the specific sites, where the ID card or passport as well as a Public Transportation Card with the balance of no less than CNY10 should be presented and CNY300 refundable guarantee deposit should be paid on the spot. Also it is required to fill in an application form.
