In ancient times, the ancestors lived and prospered in Zhuzhou.Emperor Yan, also Shennong of the ancestor of the Chinese nation, was buried in Luyuanpo Village of Yanling County . According to archeological findings, Zhuzhou City belonged to the early Neolithic Daxi cultural site 6000 years ago, and the Longshan cultural site of Zhuzhou belonged to the late Neolithic period more than 4,000 years ago.
During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods, Zhuzhou belonged to Qianzhong County of Chu State.
In 223 BC, Qin destroyed Chu and Zhuzhou belonged to Qianzhong Prefecture.
In 202 BC, Changsha was established, and Zhuzhou was the territory of Changsha.
In the 19th year of Jian'an construction in the Eastern Han Dynasty (214 years), Sun Quan cut Jianning County to the east of
Xiangnan County and Liling and Xiu County along the east bank of the
Xiangjiang River. Zhuzhou belonged to Changsha Prefecture. which was the beginning of Zhuzhou County.
In the second year (257 years) of Wu Taiping of the Three Kingdoms, Jianning County was relocated from Weizhou to Putian (now Putian Village, Zhuzhou County, and the old city of Jianning) exists.
In the first year of the Three Kingdoms Wu Baoding (266 years), Jianning County Government moved to Weizhou again.
From 265 to 420 AD, the Jin Dynasty ruled China, and Jianning County was still in Weizhou, which belongs to Changsha County of Gujing Prefecture.
From 420 AD to 589 AD, Jianning County belonged to Changsha County of Xiangzhou during the Qi Dynasty.
In the ninth year of Emperor Sui's reign (589 years), Sui died of Chen and abolished Jianning County and entered
Xiangtan County.
In the fourth year of Tang Wude (621 years), Jianning County was restored and belongs to Nanyun Prefecture (the state government is in Jinyou County today).
In the first year of Tang Zhenguan (627), Nanyunzhou was abolished and Jianning County was cancelled. Jianning County is under the jurisdiction of
Xiangtan and Fuling counties.

Zhuzhou Fumin Mansion" is located in Zhangshuping, Lucheng District.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the Qing Dynasty died, and the establishment of the "Zhuzhou Hall" for nearly five years was cancelled, and Zhuzhou was once again brought under the jurisdiction of Xiangtan County.
In March 1956, Zhuzhou was upgraded to a prefecture-level city, under the direct leadership of Hunan Province, becoming the first prefecture-level city in Hunan Province, except for the provincial capital, Changsha.
Zhuzhou was known as Jianning in the ancient times. Since the first year of the Southern Song Dynasty (1190 AD), the name of Zhuzhou has been used still today.
