Although the rail trip takes a long time, a few overnight sleeper trains make it a frequently used option for transfer. An overnight sleeper ride departing at evening and arriving the next morning saves not only your time for day time visiting but also one night hotel cost. So, it is particularly favored by budget travelers. 

Guangzhou to Zhangjiajie:

If time allows, K9006 should be the best option with good departure and arrival time. If travelers want to travel faster, T8302 can be an option. And both trains have sofer sleeper.

K687 and K9005 have similar travel time, both can be good options. T8301 takes less time but arrive at about 05:30, passengers may take it as a backup option.

All these 4 pairs of rides , K191/K192, K687/K688, K9006/K9005 and T8301/T8302 operate between Guangzhou Railway Station and Zhangjiajie West Railway Station. K9064/K9066 runs from Guangzhou Railway Station and Zhangjiajie Railway Station. The total running distance is 1,103 kilometers (685 miles) - 1,323 kilometers (822 miles). The major stopovers include Shaoguan East, Chenzhou, Hengyang, Zhuzhou, Changsha, Yiyang, and Changde.

Travel Tips

1. Since Zhangjiajie is a popular tourist destination and there are only 7 departures a day, the tickets can be under great demands. Travelers are recommended to book the ticket as early as possible.

2. If the tickets for needed ride have been sold out, travelers may have a transfer in Changsha to continue their travel. There are both normal speed and high speed trains run between Guangzhou and Changsha. By transferring in Changsha with high speed trains, the total duration can be about 4 hours shorter.
