Wulingyuan is a county-level district under the city of Zhangjiajie. Located in the center part of Zhangjiajie City, .Wulingyuan District was founded in May 1988. Wulingyuan District is surrounded by Cili County, Yongding District and Sangzhi County. History of Wulingyuan

Located at the junction of Sangzhi,Cili,and Dayong County, the area of Wulingyuan was magaged by the three counties before 1988. In order to develope tourism industry, Zhangjiajie City （ also known as Dayong City before 1994）was founded in May,1988. And the district of Wulingyuan, under the city of Zhangjiajie, was also set up in the same time. After 30 years develpement, Wulingyuan has become one of the top destinations for tourists worldwide to see.

Geography of Wulingyuan

With a total area of 398 square km, Wulingyuan District is famous for Zhangjiajie Landmark, such as Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Tianzi Mountain, Yangjiajie Scenic Spot and Yuanjiajie Scenic Spot. The Yellow Dragon Cave is a symbol of karst landmark of Wulingyuan. With a length of 50 km, Suoxi River is from Zhangjiajie National Forest Park to meet Lushui River in Jiangya Town. Baofeng Lake and Suoxi Lake are so crystal and beautiful that you couldn't help visiting while you get to Zhangjiajie. The peak of "Tuerwangyue" , 1,265 meters above sea-level, is the highest summit in Wuliangyuan Distrcit of Zhangjiajie.

When to Visit Wulingyuan?

Located in the north middle latitude, Wulingyuan has distinct four seasons and provides comfortable weather for visitors. Zhangjiajie enjoys central Asia tropical mountain prototype monsoon climate with distinct four seasons. In spring and summer, it is cool while in autumn and winter, it is warm. The average temperature is 16.4 to 16.8 °C and the frost-free periods last 245 to 268 days. The city has the average sunlight hours of 1449 hours. In effect, the meteorological feature of Zhangjiajie city is quite different from that of its scenic areas. Take Zhangjiajie National Forest Park for example. How to get to Wulingyuan?

Suoxiyu Town, the government seat of Wulingyuan District, is 32 km fom downtown Zhangjiajie. It's about 40 minute's driving from Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport and Zhangjiajie Railway Station. And it is 400 km from Changsha, capital of Hunan Province. Visitors can also take long distance bus from Changsha,Wuhan, Fenghuang Ancient Town. Wulingyuan Passgers Bus Station is located in Suoxiyu Town. It is easy to visit Baofeng Lake, Yellow Dragon Cave, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park if you take bus in Wulingyuan district.
