Chengdu Qingyang Temple


Qingyang Temple, also well known as Qingyanggong 青羊宫 in Chinese,is located in western suburbs of Chengdu City.Qingyang Temple is the oldest and largest Taoist temple in the Southwest of China.It is a famous Taoist temple beside the Jin River and also named as Qingyanggong Temple.Qingyang Temple1.jpg

Situated in the western portion of Chengdu City, the Qingyang temple originally built in the early Tang Dynasty (618-907) and rebuilt and repaired several times. The existing buildings were mostly built during The Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The temple is comprised of Sanqing Hall, Doulao Hall, Hunyuan Palace, the Eight Trigrams Pavilion, and Wuji Palace.Eight Diagrams Pavilion has imposing and exquisite engraving. The pavilion roof with yellow glazed tiles, the pavilion of the body is 8 engraved on stone pillars supporting with dragon. One of the dragons on the pillar has a boxing traces, legends of this traces said one dragon try to escape from the Qingyang Temple. The moonlight immortal aware that and shake his fist in the dragon’s, beat it into the pillar.

San Qingdian has three statues, each side has six immortal. In front of the hall there is pair of Greet goats which has been here from Qing Dynasty send from Beijing. One of the greek goat has a single-angle. It is a mixture characteristic of the Chinese zodiac. From the unusual shape you can see the character from those twelve sample animals, the various parts of mouse ears, bovine, tigers, rabbits mouth, sheep, monkey neck, corns, dog abdomen and pigs buttock.

In chinese new year (Spring Festival) ,it will held flower show in the temple according to legend these days is Lao Zi’s birthday.
