Longyan Travel Guide


Longyan is situated in western Fujian  Province, bordered with  Quanzhou  and  Sanming on east and north. It also neighbors  Ganzhou  o f Jiangxi Province to the west and Meizhou of Guangdong Province to the south. Longyan is famous for Hakka culture, the world cultural heritage, which is represented by a large-scale Yongding Tulou. There are more than 30 kinds of Tulou, among which of more than 4,000 famous square buildings. In addition to the grand Tulou, a trip to Guanzhai Mountain which has charming and lovely landscapes and cultural relics can be taken into consideration.

History of Longyan
During the Jin Dynasty (265-420), Xinluo County was set up here, belonging to the territory of Jin'an Shire. The Tang Dynasty (618-907) established Tingzhou in this region which is the old name for Longyan.


What to see in Longyan?
General terrain of Longyan descends from east and north to west and south. Mountains and hills zigzag northeast-southwest parallelly, occupying nearly eighty percent of the city's land area. It is rich in Hakka Culture Represented by Tulou.

When to visit Longyan?
Longyan City belongs to the subtropical zone, enjoying an oceanic monsoon climate. Its weather is moderate all the year round. Without chilly winter and torrid summer, the annual average temperature falls between 18 and 20 degree centigrade. The city is an all-year-round tourist destination. 


How to get to Longyan?
By Air: Guanzhaishan Airport stands in Jiangfang Village Lianfeng Town. It is 3.9 kilometers (2.4 miles) from Liancheng County, just at the foot of the Guanzhai Mountain. City proper is about 106 kilometers (66 miles) from the airport. Every week there are three flights to Fuzhou. And from Fuzhou, visitors can change flights to other cities. Additionally, they can also have the aid of the Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, and it is about one and a half hours' drive between Xiamen and Longyan through the expressway. 

By Train: Only 2 Yongding to Guangzhou trains are operated on a daily basis. Both of them depart from Yongding Railway Station. It takes them about 8 hours to complete the travel. The ticket price of the soft sleeper is CNY 259, of the hard sleeper is CNY 184-219, and of the hard seat is CNY 78-100.  

By Bus: Longyan Bus Station is located at the juncture between Xi'an Road (South) and Qiaomin Road, Xinluo District

Longyan lies in the west of Fujian Province. It borders Quanzhou on the east, Zhangzhou on the southeast, Meizhou of Guangdong on the southwest, Ganzhou of Jiangxi on the west, and Sanming on the north. It occupies an area of 19,400 squares kilometers, which is 15.7% of the land area of Fujian. The total population of Longyan is 2.86 million. The city is divided into one district, one sub-city, and five counties, that are: Xinluo Distrcit, Zhangping city, and Yongding, Shanghang, Wuping, Changting, Liancheng Counties. The residences of 5 counties out of seven are mainly Hakka, and their culture, architecture and customs are colorful and unique.
Longyan serves as a strategic center for the distribution of goods to Xiamen, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou. It also acts as a gateway for trade with Guangdong and Jiangxi Province. It is the main connection between the inland and coastal area.
Longyan is rich in natural resources such as in important mineral deposits and forest zones. The Septwolves tobacco business is an important contributor to the local economy, as is the Zijin Mining group. The largest construction equipment maker Lonking Holdings is based in the city.
