Qingdao City, located in the southeast part of Shandong Province, is a beautiful seaside city. As one of the most famous tourism cities in China, the city of Qingdao is near to the Yellow Sea to the east and south, Yantai to the northeast, Weifang to the west and Rizhao to the southwest. Qingdao is one of the most beautiful coastal cities in China. Qingdao Port has been open to 177 ports around the world, bringing Qingdao to the most prosperous city in Shandong Province.

History of Qingdao
For thirty three years, up to 1949, the city of Qingdao was a colony of Germany and Japan. Thus, it has a great deal of European architecture. This foreign architecture -a remnant of the colonial past- now beautifies this seaside city. Tourists who visit Qingdao can explore cultural relics like churches, historic German architecture and former residence of celebrities in the Qingdao Old Town while viewing beautiful natural landscapes including parks, bathing beaches in coastal areas. 


What to see in Qingdao?
The red roofs, green trees, blue sea, and azure sky form a bright and colorful picture here. The city is sometimes known as the Switzerland of the Orient. Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the city attracts many visitors with its charming seascape. Sights like the Eight Passes Villas,  the Zhan Bridge, Mt. Laoshan, No.1 Bathing Beach, Badaguan Scenic Area, May 4th Square will help you remember the city.

Other major attractions like Xinhao (Signal) Hill Park, Catholic Church (St. Emil Church), Golden Sand Beach,  Small Qingdao Island, Lu Xun Park, and Underwater World are also worth a visit. Just walking on the sand and listening to the surf breaking on the beach becomes enjoyable.
The local government recognizes the importance of the tourism industry and has further plans to develop the local tourism. To enhance the tourism industry, the city now sponsors the International Beer Festival, the International Sea Festival, Beach Culture Festival, the Sea Affection Festival, and the Summer of Qingdao Festival. In cooperation with the Beijing Olympic Games 2008, the city held the Sailing Competition in the Olympic Games in 2008. When to visit Qingdao?
Neighboring the Yellow Sea (Huang Hai), Qingdao has a temperate monsoon climate with distinct marine features.
All four seasons are mild without extreme cold or hot temperatures. Generally the golden travel period is from the end of March to early November. The last ten days of August are the best times for seaside traveling due to the mild seawater temperature. Qingdao weather of that time is temperate and humid with abundant rainfall, and the temperature differences during a day are slight. The hottest season is in August with the average temperature of 25.1ºC and the coldest in January with the average temperature of 0.9ºC below zero. Autumn and winter weather in Qingdao is windy; in winter the temperature drops below zero centigrade, although the sea does not freeze. Winter swimming challenges the courageous.


How to reach Qingdao?
To the east of the city, a short distance across the Yellow Sea, lie Korea and Japan, making Qingdao an important port for international trade. A wide range of vehicles can facilitate trips to and from the city, including direct flights, bullet trains, long-distance buses and ships. The urban transportation is good due to the developed public buses, taxis, ferryboats, sightseeing boats and metros.
By Air:  Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. It is about 17.1kilometers away from the downtown of Jiaozhou, and about 39 kilometers away from the downtown of Qingdao. After the completion, there will be the Rail Transit, Airport Express and City Bus and  Long-Distance Airport Shuttle Bus to nearby cities.
Liuting International Airport began serving the public on August 5, 1982 and has developed into an important air hub in east China. Presently, over 400 flights operate here, connecting the city with destinations both at home and abroad including Busan, Frankfurt, Los Angeles, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Xi'an. The airport is well-equipped with a parking lot, public telephones, clinic, free luggage carts, and obstacle-free facilities for passenger convenience. In addition, services such as inquiry, lost & found, left luggage, and luggage packing are also available. Located about twenty-three kilometers (about fourteen miles) from the downtown area, the airport can be easily reached. Currently, there are five shuttle buses running between the airport and downtown, covering most areas of the city. In addition, there are inter-city buses traveling between the airport and Rizhao, Weifang, Jiaozhou, Zibo, Rushan, Shouguang, Dongying, Jimo and Laixi, and other towns.
By Train: Currently, there are two railway stations in the city for passenger transport: the local station and the North Railway Station.
Qingdao  North Railway Station.: Located in Licang District, the north railway station can be reached by bus nos. 23 (Loop Line), 24, 112, 113, 118, 120, 207 (Loop Line), 325, 603 or 908. Put into operation in 2014, the north station mainly operate high speed trains, and K (fast) trains. 
Qingdao West Railway Station:  It is the junction point of Qingdao - Jinan High Speed Railway and Qingdao - Yancheng Railway, serving high speed trains to/from Jinan, Zibo, Lianyungang, Yancheng, etc.
Qingdao Hongdao Railway Station: It opened to the public in June, 2019. The railway station operates high speed trains to/from Jinan, Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Rizhao, Zibo, Lianyungang, Yancheng...
By Bus: There are eight passenger coach stations in the city, supplying frequent long-distance buses to and from many cities and regions in China. Among them, the local Long-distance Bus Station, or Sifang Long-distance Bus station located at No. 2, Wenzhou Road is the largest. There are about two-thousand buses per day leaving here for Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Henan, Hebei, Hubei and some cities inside Shandong Province. By Water:  Qingdao city's passenger port is located at No. 6, Xinjiang Road, Shibei District. Currently, it services ships to Incheon, South Korea; Shimonoseki, Japan; and Shanghai.

Local Foods: The food here is with distinctive flavors--especially seafood. So take this chance to enjoy the delicious seafood. Also, the city is the home of the famous Tsingtao Beer. Do not forget to try it when visiting the city.
