Chinese Dragon


Chinese Dragon Culture, with  the dragon totem and the dragon legend, has over eight thousand years of history. The dragon is the main totem of Chinese culture. The main symbol of China main group have claimed to be the descendants of Chinese Dragon. In myths and legends, Chinese dragon is a miraculous animal. They can make clouds and bring rain, become big or small, go up or hidden. In China, the dragon culture and the dragon of legend imply Chinese people attach importance to the Heaven of the universe; the main concept of mutual benevolent aspirations; intercourse development concept of yin and yang; inclusive multicultural viewpoint.

A typical image of the dragon are two branches of a tree angle, long beard, snake body, four-legged, covered with scales.. It can also be said that a horse face, dog nose, cattle mouth, antlers, snake body, eagle claws, fish scales, lion tail, shrimp beard. The correct translation of Chinese Dragon is "loong".

Descendants of the Dragon

The so-called Dragon descendants primarily mean blood heritage. It is said that Chinese people is the product of the ancient ancestors of humans and the dragon intercourse, and they inherit undaunted spirit of the dragon. In Chinese Cultural District, some peoples claiming to be descendants of dragon, for example: the legendary Yao mother was pregnant when she dreamed of Red Dragon. Fourteen months later, she gave birth to Yao in Danning. And Yao's blood through countless generations of marriage, spread to millions of people.

Classification of the Dragon

Standard types of dragon have two branches of a tree angle (horned dragon is not the standard variation), long beard, four claws (four feet), snake body, covered with scales, strong smell. The so-called dragon fish should not be the standard dragon.

As for the classification of Chinese dragon, there are various versions in classics, some have legends sources while some have obvious nature of literary imagination.

Hui- a kind of dragon who lives in the waters. It was imagined on the basis of reptile, such as snake. Hui is dragon's infancy, has appeared in the late Western Zhou bronze decoration, but not much.

Qiu- Generally, people call no horn dragons Qiu dragon. It is a note of ancient literature: "hornless is Qiu, horned is dragon." Another saying is that the baby dragon is called Qiu when it has horns.

Pan Chi: a snake- dragon fantasy thing genus. It is a kind of dragon without horns. For Pan Chi, there are two versions, one refers to the yellow hornless dragon, and the other refers to a female dragon.

Jiao: Generally refers to dragons who can send flood. According to legend, the dragon is able to get clouds and fog through water and fly into space.

Horn Dragon: it refers to dragon with horns. And it is a kind of old dragon in dragon family.

Curled-up Dragon: refers to the dragon dormant in the ground without the Assumption, the dragon showed a coiled shape. In China's ancient buildings, the general columns have coiled dragons. The dragon on the ceiling are conventionally called Curled-up Dragon.

Green/ Blue Dragon: it is one of "Four spiritual" or "Four Gods", also known as dragon, representing the East and cyan, so it is called "Orient House Dragon." To the Qin and Han dynasties, the "four images" has become "four spiritual" or "four gods" (The dragon, phoenix, tortoise, kylin), the mystery is getting stronger.

Fish Shaped Dragon: it is a kind of image who has dragon head and fish body and it emerged early in ancient China. This style appeared the jade carving as early as the late Shang Dynasty, and was developed through dynasties and generations.
