Quanzhou, also called Licheng and Citong Cheng in Pinyin, is one of the most famous historical and cultural cities in China. It is an important seaport located in southeast Fujian Province and is the economic and political center of the province. To its east is Taiwan separated from Quanzhou by the East Sea, making the city the famous mother town of Chinese compatriots in Taiwan and overseas. The climate is warm and humid, comfortable for year-round travel, making it a popular tourist destination. On 25 July,2021, East China's port city of Quanzhou, hailed as "the very great and noble city" by the Italian explorer Marco Polo, won UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status Sunday, bringing the total number of the country's UNESCO World Heritage sites to 56.

Histtory of Quanzhou
Due to its special location, Quanzhou has been China's marine door to exotic cultures since ancient times. During the Song (960-1279) and Yuan (1271-1368) dynasties, Quanzhou port became one of the largest world ports. As the starting point of the Sea Silk Road, it accepted diverse religions including Christianity, Islam and Manichaeism. Today it is called 'World Religions Museum'.

Quanzhou is a popular destination in Fujian Province. As one of the historic cities of China, Quanzhou boasts many ancient cultural and religion relics. Quanzhou is also a modern city that has lots of leisure and entertainment facilities. Qingyuan Mountain Scenic Area lies in a northern suburb of Quanzhou city. It combines natural beauty with the religious cultures of Buddhism and Daoism. Walking along the trails, you'll be charmed by the various streams, ponds, and strange-shaped rocks. The mountain boasts thousands of ancient trees which make it green all year round. The Golf Club near the south gate of the city is a good place for you to relax. Encircled by a beautiful natural environment, it has a playground, a meeting hall, a swimming pool, European-style villas, and other entertainments. Additionally, you can go to the Above-Water Paradise outside of the north gate of the city. Just like a Disneyland, it has different facilities for people of different ages. The Outer Space Film City, the Ferris wheel, the Kating Automobile Racing Arena, the Children's Paradise, together with the colorful music fountain, will please you to no end.


When to visit Quanzhou?
The land of Quanzhou has a tropical marine climate and is influenced by the monsoon. As a result, Quanzhou weather is warm and wet almost all year round with annual average temperature of about 18-20C. Therefore a visit can be made to this place any time of the year, although between April and November is probably the best period.


How to get to Quanzhou?
By Air: Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport (JJN) is around 12 kilometers south from Quanzhou. Nowadays over then airlines are cooperating with the airport and many air routes are accessible leading to domestic cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Chongqing and Kunming, and international areas like Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei, Singapore and Manila. The airport receives a large number of passengers annually on account of its excellent services & facilities, as well as convenient transportation, such as city buses, shuttle buses and taxis.

By Train: Quanzhou Railway Station only operates trains to/from the counties or districts belonging to the city plus a few cities in neighboring provinces, so it's not very convenient for you to get there by train. However, you can travel to Xiamen Railway Station and then change a bus to the city from the Wucun Bus Station situated opposite to the railway terminus. Between 06:20 and 20: 30, the buses run every 20 minutes. Usually it will cost you about CNY32; drive time is between one and two hours depending upon local conditions.
Alternatively if your approach is via Fuzhou Railway Station, you can take the luxury bus directly from Fuzhou to the city. These buses operate from the Fuzhou North Long-Distance Bus Station near the railway station. The earliest bus starts at 06:30 and the last one leaves at 19:30; the buses operate at 20 minute intervals. It will take you two to three hours and the ticket price is from CNY50 to CNY70.

By Bus: Quanzhou city has five long-distance bus stations, of which the newest and busiest is the New Passenger Transport Station. It has many buses to and from other cities within Fujian Province, such as Xiamen, Fuzhou, etc. Also, due to the well developed highway facilities, buses can reach many cities in other provinces, such as Guangzhou, Qingdao, Hangzhou and Shanghai, etc. You can choose the luxury bus or the ordinary bus according to your preferences. Once you arrive here, the many city bus routes serve every corner of the city.

By Ship: Quanjin Ferry Terminal, located in Shiquan Town of Nan’an City, serves well for the route of Quanzhou - Jinmen, Taiwan. Currently, the ship schedules are 08: 30, 11:30, 15:00 & 16:40 leaving from Quanzhou, and 10:10, 13:20, 15:20 & 16:20 leaving from Jinmen. Quanzhou Travel Tips
Nightlife :Nightlife in Quanzhou city is colorful. Local people often enjoy the delicious food in the night market; fly kites in the squares or boat in park lakes. Young people usually go to the cafés, bars and clubs, chattering, singing and dancing; while seniors often go to cinemas or theaters to see local operas. Clever in art, local people have created many folk operas including Nanyin, Gaojia Xi, Liyuan Xi and Marionette Show. Office workers choose beauty parlors or gymnasiums for relaxation.

Dining: Quanzhou has a large variety of local dining including snacks such as fried oysters, frozen siphon worms, noodles in meat soup and fish pellets. If you are interested in Chinese tea, do not miss Wulong Tea in Anxi County.

Shopping: There are hotels of different standards as well as small hostels in Quanzhou. If you are a backpacker, the hostels near the new long distance bus station along Wenling Road are very good choices. It also has many commercial streets for shopping, such as the Back City Street (Houcheng Street),  West Street, Zhuangyuan Street, Zhongshan Road and Daxi Street.
