Korla Peacock River


The Peacock River in Korla City is also known as the Yinma River. It is said that the general Ban Chao,who liveb in the East Han Dynasty, once let his horse drank here. The Peacock River is a rare tributary-free water system. Its only source comes from Bosten Lake, overflowing from the western part of the lake, flowing through Korla and Yuli County, and ending at Lop Nur. Due to the agricultural development, it will be seasonally cut off after flowing through the Daxihaizi Reservoir.

The Peacock River has a total length of 785 kilometers. The river flows continuously throughout the year, with an annual runoff of 1.2 billion cubic meters. The annual flow is stable.The Peacock River is a poetic name. In Xinjiang, It is extremely rare city like Korla that has a river that passes through the city. The Peacock River originated from Bosten Lake and penetrated the Korla City through the Iron Gate Pass. It is the lifeline of Korla's industry, agriculture and economy.

The Peacock River Scenic Tourism takes the Peacock River Bridge on National Highway 314 and stops at Sun Island, Yingxia Township, with a total length of about 10 kilometers. At present, there are four parks (Botanical Garden, Peacock Park, Youth Park, National Customs Park); five bridges (Lion Bridge, Lixiang Bridge, Jianqiao Bridge, Sunflower Bridge, Jianguo Bridge); seven scenic spots (fishing garden, pear garden, Observation Deck, Fengshui Square, Bai Garden, Peacock Square, Unity Garden. The Peacock River Scenic Tourism Belt has become a good place for the people of Licheng Town to relax and cool.
